Under Singapore law, non-residents must have a work visa in order to work legally in the country. Companies that employ non-residents without a valid work permit can be prosecuted under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act. Work passes are issued to professionals and managers who may serve as Chief Executive Officers, Managing Directors, Executive Directors, General Managers and Senior Managers. The employer or his appointed company has to apply under the Act and the proposed employee must earn a minimum salary per month to be eligible, and the application needs to earn 40 points to pass COMPASS.
